Big Firms in Japan Join Bidding for Power Plant Construction
May 13th, 2011 - Posted in Mining NewsJapan’s biggest maker of of power generators for machinery, Toshiba, and the country’s biggest house for trading, Sumitomo Corp are said to have submitted their applications to join the bid for the construction of 1,000MW power plant that will be located at Negri Sembilan.
The person familiar with the project released the information through Business Times.
The project has an estimated cost that runs between US$1.2 billion and US$1.5 billion (RM3.59 billion and RM4.48 billion).
According to reports, Toshiba made a solo flight with its proposal to join in the bid since it can be remembered that the company’s bid to join the construction of the 1,000MW coal-fired power plant in Tanjung Bin, Johor, was turned down because its partner failed to meet the most of the technical requirements of the project.
The world’s number three largest manufacturer of power equipment, Alstom SA, is said to be the government’s choice in case the project in Tanjung Bin will be continued.
Other bidding companies include MMC Corp Bhd. The company has submitted a bid for the coal-fired power plant in which 51 percent is owned by Malakoff Corp Bhd as its subsidiary.
